Location: Remote/On-site (Cumberland, MD)
Contract Duration: 9 months (October 2024 – June 2025)
Compensation: $25/hour, 10 hours/week (approx. 360 hours total)
About CASA of Western Maryland:
CASA of Western Maryland (Court Appointed Special Advocates)—We Speak for the Child!—recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to serve as court-appointed advocates for abused and neglected children. Our mission is to ensure every child is placed in a safe, nurturing home by collaborating with local agencies and the community. Marketing plays a crucial role in driving this mission forward by raising awareness, recruiting volunteers, and growing our donor base.
We are seeking a Marketing Coordinator to lead a focused marketing campaign in Allegany and Washington Counties to support the recruitment of volunteers, grow community awareness, and expand donor engagement.
Position Overview:
The Marketing Coordinator will be hired on a 9-month contract, with much of the work able to be completed remotely. However, a minimum of 3 hours per week of in-person work is required at our office located at 138 Baltimore Street, Suite 202, Cumberland, MD. The position is compensated at $25/hour for a minimum of 10 hours per week, totaling approximately 360 hours over the contract period. Payments will be made in monthly installments of $1,000.
Project Goals:
Through this position, CASA of Western Maryland aims to achieve increased community awareness across all demographics, attract more volunteers (for both Advocates and Board of Directors positions), and expand its donor base.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop a Multi-Year Marketing Strategy: Create marketing plans focused on volunteer recruitment, board membership, and donor engagement.
- Design a Communication Process: In cooperation with the CASA team, establish communication flows and messaging strategies to engage volunteers and donors at regular intervals.
-
-
- Define the information flow and intervals.
- Develop messaging for each contact point.
- Identify a free email marketing tool.
- Create a process for staff to manage ongoing communications.
-
- Create DEIAB-Focused Recruiting Materials: Design recruitment materials (brochures, posters, flyers, social media posts) that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging. These materials will be used across various media, including radio, print, and social media.
- Build a Repository of Visual Assets: Create a library of approximately 50 free images and graphics from local areas (e.g., playgrounds, schools, parks) to support ongoing program promotion.
- Develop Multi-Channel Collateral: Produce general information and volunteer recruitment brochures, flyers, and other collateral that can be reused and adapted for social media, newsletters, emails, and presentations.
-
-
- Develop consistent messaging and branding across all materials.
- Create general informational and volunteer recruitment brochures, flyers, and PowerPoint presentations for 20- and 60-minute talks.
- Build a library of pre-crafted social media posts to increase online engagement.
-
- Increase Social Media Presence: Expand CASA’s social media reach beyond Facebook and its website to include platforms like Instagram and other agreed-upon sites. Simplify the posting process to allow for easy, multi-platform updates at optimal times.
- Engage with Community Organizations: Identify local social media groups, community events, churches, and organizations where CASA can recruit volunteers or present its mission. Provide a list of events and contact information for these groups.
- Support Website Updates: Work with staff to refresh and streamline website content, ensuring that messaging is consistent with other communication channels.
- Draft Articles for Publication: Write articles for local print publications, such as Hagerstown Magazine and Allegany Magazine.
Current Challenges:
CASA of Western Maryland is currently facing several challenges:
- Limited Community Resources: Recent staff turnover has resulted in the loss of community contacts and resources, requiring rebuilding efforts.
- Low Name Recognition: The organization’s name recognition is low, and it is often confused with another nonprofit with a similar name in Washington County.
- Community Involvement: Volunteer participation is hindered by the lack of awareness and the significant time commitment required (8-10 hours per month for one year).
- Limited Capacity: With a small team wearing multiple hats, marketing tasks often fall to a lower priority. This role will help establish simple, consistent marketing processes to ensure these critical efforts are sustained.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Relevant marketing and communication experience.
- Commitment to community service and advocacy.
- Portfolio of previous work, including graphic design and writing samples.
Submission Requirements:
- Personal Resume
- Examples of Graphic Design Work
- Writing Sample
Timeline & Budget:
- Final project deliverables due by May 20, 2025.
- Total contract length: October 2024 – June 2025. If an extension is required, please propose a new timeline with justification.
- Compensation: $25/hour, not to exceed 360 hours ($9,000 total).
Submission Deadline:
Submit your materials by October 1, 2024, to Deborah Hormuth at deborah@casaofwesternmaryland.org. For inquiries, contact her at 301-777-1262.
